Family Portraits Frequently Asked Questions.
Trust me, there’s no such thing as a silly question. You don’t know, what you don’t know, till you know. Here are a few questions that I get asked on a regular basis. Just click in a question to get the answer. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need further information and/or clarification on anything to do with my family portrait photography.
What should we wear?
Straight into the toughest question first eh. You should be comfortable! Outdoor family portrait sessions especially with little kids are fairly active, so expect that the kids may run around and get a little dirty, you may need to sit on the ground, and we may do some walking around.
Comfort is everything to make sure that you can relax and be yourself. Try to avoid clothing with large brands that are visible and try to be a little colour cordinated across the whole family.
What happens if we get rained out?
Hey, we live in the UK! I try to keep a number of back-up dates open each month in case of bad weather. If it’s raining we will try and fit into one of the backup days.
Where should we take our family portraits?
Being a family portrait photographer based in Oxfordshire means that we are spoilt for choice when it comes to locations. Generally, most people tend to stick with something local that means something to them, be it a walk, riverside, woods, or a field. We can even shoot around the streets of your home.
How do we book?
Just go to the contact page, let me know what you are looking for, and we will go from there! I can’t wait to work with you.
What can we do to help the session go smoothly?
We will work together to plan your wardrobe, location, and timing. The best thing you can do is to relax and enjoy!
How much time should I expect the session to take?
As a loose guideline, sessions typically last between 1 - 1.5 hours. I love to photograph the beauty, the silly, and the goofy moments and will take the time to capture all of it!
What happens after the photoshoot?
1-2 weeks after the photo shoot, you'll receive a link to your password protected online gallery. When you are ready to place your order, we'll get together and talk details. Your fine art prints will be ready to hang in 2-4 weeks.
Is your studio daunting?
My studio is in a quiet corner of my home, there will be two or three lights and a backdrop. I know through experience that families react differently to being in a studio and it’s my job to get you relaxed, and if that doesn’t work I will start rolling out the Dad jokes! And if needed I can pack up my lights and backdrop and do the photoshoot in the comfort of your own home.
What areas do you cover?
I travel throughout South East England for family photography portrait sessions. Locations outside of a 30-mile radius of Abingdon are subject to a travel charge.
We are looking for a mixture of candid and posed family photos. Can you do both?
Always! My visual storytelling style leans toward a candid, documentary approach (the kids being hilarious, the dog licking your face), but posed family photographs, where everyone is smiling and looking at the camera, are also treasured keepsakes. We find a way to work both into our session.
Can we bring along the family pet?
I don't pretend to be the dog whisperer but absolutely, pets are totally family members! Let’s just make sure they’re groomed, well behaved, and on a leash. Bring plenty of treats and a few chew toys, to be safe.
